Ford Motor Company has made a $6 million donation to expansion plans for the Motown Museum.
The massive investment references the historic link between the two companies. Berry Gordy often said he created the record label’s “assembly line” production system based on lessons he learned while working at a Ford plant a during the 1950s.
The museum, located in the famous Hitsville USA building on West Grand Boulevard, is slated for a $50 million expansion and renovation over the next few years. Ford will hold naming rights to the museum’s new performance theater and will brand several interactive exhibits.
The Motown Museum was established by Berry’s sister Esther Gordy Edwards in 1985.
