Drake’s single “One Dance” may be the most streamed song on Spotify with a whopping 880 million plays, but another artist has seen a bump for an entirely different, far more political reason.
The number of times users have streamed Janet Jackson’s 1986 single “Nasty” has increased and then some ever since Donald Trump called his opponent Hillary Clinton a “nasty woman” during the third and final presidential debate Wednesday (Oct. 19). Spotify reported that streams of “Nasty” have increased by 250% overnight.
Besides getting a popularity boost, Jackson is having quite the week. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced this week that she is among its 2017 nominees who had to release an album beginning in 1991 or earlier in order to be eligible. A full list of inductees will follow in December.
In the meantime, listen to “Nasty” below. From the sounds of it, Jackson could teach Trump a thing or two.
