The first Detroit QLINE streetcar arrived earlier than scheduled and I’m loving the look. I’m also loving the traffic issues going away downtown on Woodward with the project phase close to being finished. You will love the comfort along with free Wi-Fi, and a place to put bicycles.

When the streetcars were proposed, one of the worries was about the electrical lines, often the transit vehicles will switch to battery power, communications officer for QLINE Dan Lijana, had this to say, “Obviously, that was a big concern for residents, and for us during this project, was making sure that the route didn’t have a ‘mess of wires’ hanging overhead, as well as negotiating with not one but two freeway overpasses that the QLINE passes through. That’s why Brookville [Equipment, the manufacturers of the railcar] was perfect for us. They’re an all-American company that started off as a transit company for miners you couldn’t fit a lot of wires down underground back then.” More in the report here.
