Daniel Radcliffe starred as the titular character in the ultra-popular Harry Potter movies, and he earned a decent living doing it.

In fact, the 27-year-old actor reportedly banked a whopping $97 million from the 8 films, and it turns out, he really hasn’t touched the money.

During a recent interview with the Mirror, Radcliffe opened up about his earnings, and why exactly he’s so grateful to have it.

“I don’t really do anything with my money,” he admitted. “I’m very grateful for it, because having money means you don’t have to worry about it, which is a very lovely freedom to have. It also gives me immense freedom career-wise.”

Radcliffe’s desire to branch out and act in independent films is proven through his diverse resume. Since being cast as Harry Potter at age 11, he has starred in various indie projects such as Kill Your Darlings, The Woman in Black, Horns and, most recently, Swiss Army Man.

Still, as Radcliffe continues to grow as a man and as an actor, he’ll always remember what it was like growing up in the spotlight.

“The difficulty is trying to work out who you are while constantly coming up against a perception of yourself that everybody else already has,” he explained. “I think it’s very important, especially when you become famous young, to work out who you are without fame and without that as part of your identity, because that will go. Fame does not last forever. For anyone.”
