Ringo Starr has teamed up with the United Nations to released a new track, titled, “Now The Time Has Come.” The track, which was released yesterday (September 21st) in commemoration of International Day of Peace, was written with Ringo’s collaborator,  producer Bruce Sugar, and features lead vocals by Ringo, Mr. Misters Richard Page — and active member of Ringo’s All Starr Band along with former All Starr, Men At Work leader Colin Hay, and Billy Valentine.

Ringo issued a statement about “Now The Time Has Come” saying, “I worked on this record with Peace & Love. . . It was a joy to be part of this project. Making this record was incredibly personal for me. Against the backdrop of war or social unrest, I always turned to music as a refuge. I hope this record can offer people solace and inspire them to do all they can to bring peace to their communities.”

  • According to the press release, “The song is part of the massive social media campaign #HugForPeace, a combination call-to-action and hashtag that promotes 24-hours of non-violence on the International Day of Peace through a simple act: a hug. The campaign was launched at the annual Ringing of the Peace Bell ceremony hosted at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on September 16th by UN Assistant Secretary-General Ray Chambers.”
  • Ringo told us that although he’s nothing but proud of his Beatles days and all the good that came along with it — he truly lives for the now and doesn’t feel the need to relive the group’s history: “I did all that in the ‘60s. We are The Beatles, we made those records, and now we’re ‘Ringo,’ and I do what I do now, y’know? That’s how it is. Y’know, I don’t sit here, y’know, dwellin’ on the past. I’m trying, like, to get on with today. That’s what I do.”

  • In 2001, the United Nations General Assembly designated September 21st as the International Day of Peace, devoted to strengthening the ideals for peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
  • The day was also established as an annual day of non-violence and cease-fire. The Secretary-General has asked partners to lend their voices to this call for a laying down of arms, in order to bring about a 24-hour cease fire on September 21st.
