Tune in during the 1 O’Clock hour of my show today, on 104.3 WOMC,  to win tix for the show Saturday night at the Meadowbrook Music Festival.

Don Henley feels that with the loss of Glenn Frey, it’s up to him to keep the pair’s Eagles songs alive. Frey died on January 18th in New York City at age 67 due to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis, and Pneumonia.

Henley, who’s currently on tout supporting his latest solo hit album, Cass County, told The Oakland Press that he’s still dealing with the loss of Frey, admitting, “I’m still processing it, and I will be for quite some time. I think about him every day, and I think about his family and his kids and wife. They’re doing OK. We all check on them quite often, and everybody’s getting through it.”

  • He explained that his solo shows dip into the Eagles’ catalogue: “Obviously we’ll do some Eagles songs. Out of respect for (Frey) I don’t do the songs he sang, I just do the ones that I sang. But I do several songs that we co-wrote together, including of course, ‘Desperado,’ which was the first song we really wrote together. . . People want to hear those songs and I feel like it’s my responsibility to carry that torch now, to be the curator, as it were, of a lot of those songs. And I’m gonna do that.”
  • Don Henley explained what it was about the Eagles’ music that registered so deeply with their fans: “I think a lot of it has to do with timing. I think these songs came along at a time in people’s lives when they were becoming adults, or, y’know, going through a certain period in their life, their lives. And, y’know, there’s a cliche about songs being ‘the soundtrack’ to people’s lives and things like that, but I would imagine that there are a lot of different reasons for that and we don’t have a clue.”
