Did you know that he bikini turned 70 this year? Hard to comprehend that the little bathing suit was introduced in 1946. UPI gives credit to Brigitte Bardot for making the fashion acceptable in the early 60’s on US beaches.

The garment was designed by an engineer, Louis Réard named it after an island where the atomic bomb was tested, Bikini Atoll. The Vatican called it sinful, and it was banned in many countries. Watching the Olympic Beach Volleyball competitions, I would say we have come a long way. See how the bikini evolved here.
