Lynyrd Skynyrd was scheduled to play the DTE Energy Music Theater next Thursday July 28th along with Peter Frampton. We are waiting for an update from the venue as to the disposition of the show and for more info on the status of tickets already sold, after co-founding guitarist Gary Rossington‘s hospitalization following chest pains, Lynyrd Skynyrd is hitting the pause button on their current tour for a few weeks, according to Ultimate Classic Rock.

The band issued a statement on its Facebook page saying: “The Lynyrd Skynyrd band is canceling or rescheduling the next 2 weeks of touring, while Gary Rossington recovers at home from heart surgery to repair blockage in his arteries. Currently, the band hopes to resume touring on August 4 in Woodlands, TX. The band has rescheduled Boston, MA at Blue Hills Bank Pavilion to September 23 and moved Big Flats, NY at Tag’s Summer Sound Stage to the following day, September 24. We are continuing to work on other potential re-scheduling, as well. Please stay tuned to the Lynyrd Skynyrd website and social media pages for updates.”

  • As it stands now, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s next confirmed date is set for August 4th in The Woodlands, Texas at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion with Peter Frampton.
  • In October, Rossington suffered a serious heart attack, and earlier in 2015 was hospitalized with an abdominal infection, forcing the band to miss a show.
  • Last fall, when Rossington suffered his last heart attack, Skynyrd frontman Johnny Van Zant gave us an update on Rossington’s heart issues: “Yeah, he’s doing good. Y’know, he had a slight heart attack, and y’know, he had a quadruple bypass — what was it five, six year ago, maybe — it might be even longer than that. And he was doing a procedure and they took him off of his plavix, which is blood thinner, and it caused him to have a blood clot — so basically gave him a small heart attack.”
