The latest issue of Glamour magazine is called Chic At Any Size and features an article on Women Who Inspire Us that includes Adele, Melissa McCarthy, and Amy Schumer. Schumer has openly discussed her issues with body image and took to social media to call out Glamour for labeling her as plus-sized.
Her point is that she doesn’t want young girls to think that her size – which is a 6 or 8 – is considered plus-sized. I remember feeling that same way not long after I started working on the radio. We were always talking about dieting on the air. And while I do like to live a healthy lifestyle I came to the same realization that Amy did. I remember telling my co-hosts “I know I don’t look perfect, but I don’t want any young girls listening to think that I think size 6 is fat.”
Of course I’m still dreaming of the day when we can talk about women without mentioning their size. You know, like men.
