Makenna Goodrich is a 12-year-old that lives in the Phoenix area. After watching a documentary on TV about the homeless, she became inspired to help. Makenna decided to go door to door and collect coats for the homeless. Since starting her efforts at age nine she has collected over a 1000 coats. Makenna’s mom, Jennifer, speaks about the neighbors reaction, “At first, neighbors were surprised by her age and actions, but there was an outpouring of support. Who doesn’t have a coat in their closet they’re willing to give up? It was a simple solution that allowed everyone to get involved without leaving their home.”

Makenna has other projects, and has gone on to inspire her friends, “Not only is she making a difference for the homeless herself, but she’s also showing all these young girls that they can put a positive footprint on the world too.” A girl on her softball team has begun collecting bibles for the homeless, and her brother is planing a campaign to collect backpacks.
