Charlie Watts Spends Night Off Behind the Drums At Detroit Jazz Club

Author: Jim Johnson

Charlie Watts spent his night off from The Rolling Stones tour playing some of his favorite music — jazz.

The drummer sat in with Band2, a group led by Stones formed by three of the Stones’ live sidemen, saxophonist Tim Ries, bassist Darryl Jones and vocalist Bernard Fowler, at The Music Box in Detroit Tuesday night. Billboard reports that Watts was introduced by Ries as “a new young drummer just on the scene.” He sat in on the 1930s standards “For All We Know” and “All or Nothing at All.” After playing, Watts stuck around to watch the rest of Band2’s 90-minute show.

The Stones  Zip Code Tour Rolled through Detroit’s Comerica Park last night.
