When Brian Wilson begins his summer tour in Saratoga, California on June 18th, he’ll be joined by support act Rodriguez, the obscure Detroit musician who was the subject of an acclaimed 2013 documentary, Searching for Sugar Man. As a tie-in, the film will be re-released and shown for a week at theaters in Los Angeles and New York.
Sixto Rodriguez, a Mexican-American singer-songwriter of the late ’60s, never had any success in America, but his music became a sensation in South Africa. The film concerns his rediscovery and efforts to bring him there for a tour.
The Brian Wilson tour comes to Detroit’s Fox Theater on Sunday July 5th.
