Last night, Eddie Vedder took the stage at the Ed Sullivan Theater as Late Show with David Lettermans second-to-last music guest.

Looking dapper in a button down shirt (no tie) under a blazer, Vedder, armed with his blue Fender Telecaster, led Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra through the Pearl Jam classic “Better Man.”

The song fit surprisingly well in that format, with Shaffer beginning the song with a sweet piano intro, instead of the usual electric guitars.

Soon enough, though, the song started rocking. By the end of the song, Vedder was strumming his guitar with abandon (breaking at least one string) and yelling, “Love you Dave!”

What was Letterman’s reaction and what did he say?
