Slash is using his music to send a positive message with his latest song “Beneath the Savage Sun.”
Exactly what that message is was translated by the famed guitarist in an interview with CBS This Morning.
Inspired by a trip to South Africa, the song tackles the underlying problem of the ivory trade.
“My singer Myles (Kennedy) and I went to South Africa a couple years ago, spent some time over there, and were very aware of the ivory trade and the destruction of the elephant species,” Slash explained. “Being there firsthand… inspired the lyrics. I thought a great thing to do would be to try to raise more awareness in the U.S. about how significant the U.S.’s contribution to the ivory trade is because I don’t think a lot of people know what’s going on. So we put together a very telling video about an elephant’s death from the view of one of its own.”
