John Mellencamp Writes Open Letter Condemning Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act

Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act has seen a healthy amount of blow-back in the last few days, from Wilco canceling dates to independent record labels announcing their disappointment with the state legislature.

Now, one of Indiana’s favorite sons, John Mellencamp, has written an open letter in the Indianapolis Star also calling out the law.

“I am not questioning the sincerity of those who believe they have acted in the interests of religious freedom,” Mellencamp says, “but I am resolutely stating my opposition to this misnamed and ill-conceived law. It is discriminatory, hurtful, and a stain on Indiana’s national reputation.”

As to whether Mellencamp will cancel shows like Wilco, the classic rocker stops a little short of that action.
