David Coverdale and Whitesnake are making 2015 a year to remember with a string of North American dates and a new studio set for May 19th. The new album,The Purple Album, is “a re-imagination of classic songs from David Coverdale’s time as the lead singer for Deep Purple’s Mark III and Mark IV studio albums.” Purple classics revamped for the new set include “Stormbringer,” “Lady Double Dealer,” “Soldier Of Fortune” and “Sail Away.” Coverdale was Deep Purple’s frontman from late-1973 to early-1976 and sang on the albums Burn, Stormbringer, and Come Taste The Band.

Coverdale spoke about the album in the band’s press release, saying, “It’s a tribute. A homage. It’s a huge thank you from me to Deep Purple for the opportunity I was given over 40 years ago. As I said to Ritchie (Blackmore), ‘You guys set me on an incredible journey that continues today and I couldn’t have asked for better teachers. The University of Deep Purple was an extraordinary, amazing school to learn from.’ We can’t wait to play these songs in concert!’”

  • Coverdale says that he works these days solely for the love of the music — because he’s thankfully secure in the financial sense: “Well, I know I still sell records, because I live very well (laughs). I, I still sell records around the world, so there’s not really an economic necessity to go back to work. This is just a lot of fun for me.”
