With a roster like that, there was no shortage of highlights. Among the musical ones: A cover of “Higher Ground” by Beyoncé, Gary Clark Jr., and Ed Sheeran. Wonder’s “Fingertips” and “Jammin” were other tracks that Beyoncé put her stamp on, solo.

Ariana Grande and Babyface gave a falsetto’d rendition of “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.” Ne-Yo and Aisha Morris took on “Isn’t She Lovely.” Paul McCartney, who was honored for The Beatles during last year’s GRAMMYs, also participated in the celebration. He delivered a video message to Wonder, reflecting on their relationship over the years and his early memories of the singer-songwriter.

As much as the evening honored Wonder’s past accomplishments however, it was also a teaser of his work to come.
