On Minimation, we comb through the archives of legendary New York radio station WNEW-FM and animate interviews with legendary rock artists. In this 1974 interview, John Lennon reveals that he had reunited with his estranged wife, Yoko Ono.
In 1974, John Lennon was in the midst of what is now referred to as his “Lost Weekend,” a rather lighthearted nickname given to his separation from his wife Yoko Ono.
During this time—among other things—he recorded his classic “Whatever Gets You Through The Night,” a collaboration with a young superstar named Elton John. Legend has it that Lennon doubted the song’s commercial potential, but Elton didn’t; Lennon promised to join the younger singer on stage if the song topped the pop charts, which it did.
So, on November 28, 1974, he joined Elton onstage at Madison Square Garden.
