Yoko Ono, Flaming Lips Turn ‘Merry Xmas (War is Over’ Psychedelic: Listen

Yoko Ono is back with a new version of she and late husband John Lennon’s Christmas classic “Merry Xmas (War is Over)”—with a little help from her fwends, one might say.

The Flaming Lips combine with Ono for a new cover of the song, released today (Nov. 20). It’s very much a reimagining of the track in the Lips’ vein, the band’s usual psychedelic undertones leading over sounds of sleigh bells.

Frontman Wayne Coyne takes the lead on the verses, while Ono helms the chorus she sang on the original over 40 years ago.
