Hotel Charges An Extra $150 For Bad Review

Careful what you post about your hotel stays. Also read the fine print for your reservation. UPI reports that one couple was so unhappy about their stay. they posted, “rotten stinking hovel” on Trip Advisor. That cost them an extra $150 on their credit card. The fine print in the reservation warns about the extra charge is a bad review is given.

One hotel actually has a policy of fining $500 for a bad review. So is this unfair and illegal? Here’s what John Greenbank, North Trading Standards area manager, had to say, “I have worked for trading standards for many years and have never seen anything like this. The hotel management clearly thinks that they have come up with a novel way to prevent bad reviews, however we believe this could be deemed an unfair trading practice.” Is this Russia? No, it’s New York and England.
