Well, Jimmy Fallon and his talent bookers didn’t have much time to react to the news that U2 frontman Bono injured his arm in a bicycling accident in Central Park over the weekend, just hours before the band was supposed to kick off a week-long residency on NBC’s The Tonight Show.
But as Fallon said, “The show must go on.”
That, however, led to the question of who to get. “And then I realized we already have the best band in the world: the Roots are here every single night!”
And, Fallon added, “Bono’s wardrobe is already here,” as he donned the military cap Bono wore during the 2000s, a pair of Bono-esque shades, a black jacket and a Gibson guitar. He then led the Roots through a note-for-note rendition of U2’s 1988 hit “Desire,” including playing Bono’s harmonica lines toward the end of the song.
