On Minimation, we comb through the archives of legendary New York radio station WNEW-FM and animate interviews with legendary rock artists. This installment is taken from a 1985 interview with guitarist Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, where he discusses how he and drummer Bun E. Carlos recorded parts for John Lennon‘s 1980 album Double Fantasy. It was animated for Radio.com by MB X. McClain.
Like most other bands of their generation, the guys from Cheap Trick were huge Beatles fans. So it must have been a thrill for guitarist Rick Nielsen and drummer Bun E. Carlos when they received an invite to play on a John Lennon album.
As Nielsen recalled in this interview, they played on Lennon’s “I’m Losing You” and “one other song that Yoko was caterwauling on” (that would be “I’m Moving On”; Double Fantasy was credited to Lennon and Ono, each of them wrote and sang half the songs).
