A concert recording of James Taylor in his heyday and some less than stellar mid-1960s recordings featuring him are both being released in the next couple of weeks.
The gem of the two is Feel the Moonshine: The Classic 1976 Radio Broadcast, which comes out September 9th. It features a concert from July 25th of that year at Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh, which was broadcast on a local FM station. On that tour, Taylor’s touring band was augmented by longtime Jackson Browne sideman David Lindley on fiddle and slide guitar, and David Sanborn on saxophone.
The previously released The Letter is being reissued September 2nd, and it’s for hardcore fans only. It’s mostly recordings a young Taylor made with his mid-1960s band The Flying Machine that are barely recognizable as him.
