Construction started today on the Woodward Light Rail project that will link downtown Detroit to the city’s New Center area.

The project is expected to take about 27 months — scheduled for completion in late 2016.

The 3.3 mile, $140-million streetcar will have 16 curbside and four median passenger stations and is expecting around 6,000 riders in the first year.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation released the above video in March that shows animations of what the light rail will look like when built to completion.
