Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith headlined a fundraiser at the Berman Theatre in West Bloomfield on Monday evening to benefit the Birmingham Community Coalition and the Axis Music Academy.

The event included an extended interview where he spoke about growing up in Birmingham Michigan and eventually moving to Los Angeles where he auditioned and won the opportunity to become the drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Local music writer Gary Graff had a lot of laughs with Chad and they delighted the crowd which included his Mom and extended family.

Following the interview, Chad joined Shock Wave, a local “battle of the bands” winner and played a cover of the Kiss classic, Detroit Rock City.
