Rolling Stones: A Little Something Up Their Sleeve

Author: Jim Johnson

The Rolling Stones are still capable of breaking out a surprise performance here and there, and that’s exactly what they did Tuesday night at their second of three shows at the Tokyo Dome.

With Mick Taylor on guitar, just like he was on the original, they played “Silver Train” for the first time in 40 years. The song was on their 1973 album “Goats Head Soup”, and the only time they ever performed it was over four shows in one week in September 1973. The song was voted for by fans on, on the band’s official app and on their numerous pages across social media sites.

The Stones wrap up the Japan leg of their “14 on Fire” tour on Thursday with their 28th show at the Dome.

On Friday, 68-year-old Eric Clapton finished his tour of Japan in Tokyo and said it could be the last time he plays there. With the Stones slightly older than Eric and their tour schedule not nearly as frequent as his, Thursday’s show could be their last in Japan as well.
