Baby, It’s Cold Outside! What To Expect From The Weather For New Year’s

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) – Metro Detroiters will be bundling up as they say goodbye to 2013 and usher in a newicon1 Snow Starts Falling In Metro Detroit For New Years Eveyear.

The National Weather Service said up to eight inches of snow is expected to fall on southeast Michigan over the next few days. Stay up to the minute on the forecast HERE.

Forecasters say the snowfall will start Tuesday, with scattered flurries turning into snow showers overnight. The snow will pick up from there, with a possible accumulation of four to eight inches through Thursday afternoon. Most of the accumulation will happen on Wednesday, with the heaviest snow Downriver and near the Ohio border.

Things are also going to get cold – very cold. Temperatures from the unseasonably warm 40s over the weekend plummeted into the low 20s on Tuesday. Temperatures throughout the rest of the week will hover between 20 and 10 degrees, with some overnight lows in the single digits.

Here’s the local forecast from the CBS Detroit weather team:

Tuesday – Mostly cloudy, breezy and quite cold with a few flurries. Winds W at 10 to 20 mph. High 22F.
Tuesday Night – Mostly cloudy and cold with a few snow showers developing late. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph. Low near 15F.

Wednesday – Frigid with snow at times, accumulating 1-3 inches. Winds NE at 10 to 15 mph. High 18F.
Wednesday Night – Scattered flurries and snow showers, accumulating an additional 1-3 inches. Low around 15F.

Thursday – Some snow flurries in the morning will give way to cloudy skies in the afternoon.  Winds NE at 15 to 25 mph. High 16F.
Thursday Night – Bitterly cold. Cloudy skies early will become partly cloudy later at night. Winds N at 10 to 20 mph. Low 8F
