A whopping $187.6 million was left to several charities by Jack MacDonald, who died at age 98 in September. People outside of family members, did not know that he was rich because he lived a life as a bargain hunter who wore shabby clothes and took buses instead of taxicabs. His family knew of his wealth because of his success with stocks. The money will go into a charitable trust to Seattle Children’s Research Institute, the University of Washington School of Law and the Salvation Army. His stepdaughter, Regen Dennis states, “He didn’t trust a lot of other people to do his research; he directed what he wanted bought, and he really knew what he wanted.” UPI
