For the second consecutive year, a Detroit Lions star will be featured on the cover of the Madden football video game, but this time it’s retired legend rather than a still-active player.

Running back Barry Sanders will grace the cover of EA Sports’ special anniversary edition of the game, dubbed Madden NFL 25. He won the honor in an online fan vote, besting Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson. The Hall of Famer Sanders racked up 58 percent of the vote to Peterson’s 42.

Last year’s “Madden NFL 13” featured Detroit wide received Calvin Johnson on the cover.  For the record, The “Madden Curse” seems to be over.  Calvin Johnson had a record year last year in spite of being on the cover.
