We’ve all seen the tip jar at the coffee shop, gas station, ice cream place, pretty much anywhere you stand in line to buy something to eat or drink, they usually have the good ‘ol tip jar siting next to the cash register. Sometimes, they’ll even give it a funny name, like ‘College Fund’. I have a daughter in college, so I almost always throw my change in.
But! What about the people who never use cash, but pay with a credit or debit card? Kind of had to throw those pennies, dimes and quarters you get back in the tip jar (assuming you want to) if you don’t get any back, right? What becomes of those poor, struggling college students? How will they buy their books? Do their laundry? Live?
Fear not, the ‘Dip Jar’ will save the day! It’s a tip jar that takes credit and debit cards. There are two of them in use at these New York coffee houses. Feel bad that you’re not tipping when you use plastic to get that cup of joe? Keep the card out, and just dip to tip! You get your coffee and the student who waited on you gets to stay in school…I guess.
So, dip jar? Good or bad idea?
