When Neil Young & Crazy Horse hit the road for a brief string of dates earlier this month to promote Americana, their first album in nine years, fans expected to hear songs from the new album.

Young has famously resisted leaning too much on his greatest hits when he tours. While he generally plays a couple of his well-known songs, he has never been tethered to any song in particular when he performs. And when he has new material, he’s generally pretty enthused about it. But so far, just one Americana song has made the setlist: “Jesus’ Chariot” (aka “She’ll Be Coming ‘Round The Mountain”).

Which isn’t to say that new songs haven’t made the setlist: “Born In Ontario,” “For The Love Of Man,” “Psychedelic Pill,” “Ramada Inn” and “Twisted Road” are all previously unreleased songs that the band has performed on this tour. And they’ll apparently have another new album out later this year.

Longtime Crazy Horse guitarist Frank “Pancho” Sampdero told Rolling Stone that the album will be titled Psychedelic Pill, with the magazine speculating it will be released in October, just four months on the heels of Americana.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse have some time off, but they co-headline Farm Aid in Hershey, Pennsylvania on September 22, and then they headline the Global Festival at Central Park in New York City on September 29, before kicking off a tour on October 3 in Ontario.
