Our weather ace Chuck Gaidica is predicting perfect weather for the event which is being held from 10am-5pm tomorrow and Sunday. Chuck says sunny and temps in the 80s each day. It just doesn’t get any better than that!
Bring your family, enjoy the zoo, and please check out hundreds of dogs and cats up for adoption by the Michigan Humane Society. There’s a perfect pet just waiting to meet you! In addition to all the adult dogs and cats there will be loads of adorable puppies and kittens that will tug at your heartstrings.
My son Rob and his family adopted Buster (pictured above) at a Meet Your Best Friend At The Zoo event a few years ago and he has made a great pet.
The event is made possible by PurinaOne, a company that really goes the extra mile all across the U.S. to help animals that need homes.

From our own personal experience at the Schuman household over many years, “Heinz 57” dogs make the best and most loving pets. We’re real saps for animals in need and in most cases, our adopted animals don’t even make it to a shelter. All of our family members know how much we love dogs and cats so when one wanders into their yard, we get the call.
Our cat Freeway got his name for a reason. Our daughter Christie and her husband Russ were just turning right onto I-696 off of Evergreen when my daughter saw what she thought was a black trash bag on the side of the entrance ramp. Then it moved and she clearly saw that it was a young cat. She pulled over, made the rescue and called us to tell us we’d be getting a new family member! He’s a great little guy and to think, he was just seconds away from certain death.
Please take in the zoo and at least consider adopting a pet this weekend!
