By Bobby Mitchell

I remember a fantastic concert night where Huey Lewis joined Chicago on stage. Robert Lamm recalls: “I have to say he really has a lot of guts; he’s not a ballad singer but when we suggested he sing ‘Color My World’ he jumped right on it and he made it work every night.”

What can we expect from Chicago when their tour with the Doobie Brothers comes to DTE August 1st? Will Robert be singing a Doobies song? “We’ll do more than that – we’re actually gonna play at least a 45 minute set, the two bands together. So I’m gonna get to sing ‘Takin It To The Street’ and ‘Rockin Down The Highway’…and they will be singing ’25 Or 6 To 4’…so it’s really kind of a guitar fest!”

Robert Lamm Songs: The JVE ReMixes will be released June 1 and it will be like nothing you’ve ever heard before. Seriously, you’ll be wondering if producer John Van Eps has ruined beloved Chicago classics. What will your reaction be when you hear the deconstruction of favorites like “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is” and others? Robert told me, “My fear is that the Chicago website is going to be rife with complaints about what I’ve done!” Keep in mind these are Robert Lamm’s own songs so he has allowed all this tinkering. “My favorite piece is ‘Saturday In The Park’ where he’s taken a lyric that describes an idyllic weekend in the park to sort of something that refers to (I think) Occupy Wall Street.”
