General Hospital has dodged the axe!  ABC reports it will keep the daytime soap on the air by bumping out the rookie talk show, The Revolution.

Speculation was stirring that ABC would cut the long-time daytime drama series when Katie Couric’s new 3 p.m. talk show hit the air this fall.

General Hospital celebrated 49 years on the air on April 1, 2012 and holds the title of the longest-running soap opera in the U.S. that is still in production.

If you haven’t been watching the series since 1963 because, well, either you were too busy being born or holding down a daytime job, you can get the gist of it with the five-minute montage below…

Good for General Hospital. The next step would be not so many writers and not OLTL characters added to this show.

Thank God, I have been there since the 1st show.

I don’t like Katie to be on at the 3pm hour, she should be on at 2pm and leave GH alone!!! and I agree with carol tayler, the OLTL characters are not good enough for GH,. please keep them out! thanks
