Citizens of Seattle will soon have a new place to picnic. Rolling Stone reports  a park celebrating the life and music of [mp3com-artist]Jimi Hendrix[/mp3com-artist] is being developed and is set to open in 2012.

The planned space will commemorate Hendrix’s 70th birthday and will  include a rain water canopy, sculptural seating shelters, interpretive pillars, a central canopy and stage, picnic shelter and a wall of sound within 2.5-acres.

Hendrix’ sister, Janie Hendrix, donated to the project as well as the Parks and Green Spaces Opportunity Fund and the Neighborhood Matching Fund Award.
