Sweetest Day is tomorrow but you can get a head start with your honey tonight in Royal Oak as they celebrate the Chalk and Chocolate Tour.

The Chalk and Chocolate Tour kicks off tonight in downtown Royal Oak and continues tomorrow (Sweetest Day) and Sunday.

The event celebrates art, education and culture and it’s sponsored by the Royal Oak Association of Retailers and the Royal Oak Restaurant Association.

Tonight for the opener and many fine establishments from Royal Oak will be out in force including Andiamo, Lily’s Seafood, and the Rock of Cake Liquer. Tonight’s music will be provided by the soul band The Brothers Groove.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Royal Oak Schools Arts Curriculum Fund for kids in grades K-12. Increasingly funds are dwindling for the arts in the schools and this program is helping.

By the way, I mentioned that Sweetest Day is tomorrow. It’s not a national observance but it’s been around here in the Midwest for years. Personally, I think it’s just a contrived holiday to get us to spend money. I mean it’s nice to buy your honey a nice treat but you can do that anytime without being steered in that direction. What do you think? Sound off on our poll below and see how others feel about it.
