A new documentary film, RE:GENERATION, will follow the process of mashing up distinct musical genres to produce new music under the supervision of a well-known DJ or producer.

The project, according to Rolling Stone, is co-produced by the GRAMMYs and directed by Amir Bar Lev.

The pairings were odd to say the least… DJ Premier worked on a  classical track with [mp3com-artist]Nas[/mp3com-artist] and the Berkley School of Music Orchestra. Pretty Lights worked with  [mp3com-artist]Leann Rimes[/mp3com-artist] and [mp3com-artist]Ralph Stanley[/mp3com-artist]. [mp3com-artist]The Crystal Method[/mp3com-artist] teamed up with [mp3com-artist]Martha Reeves[/mp3com-artist] and Mark Ronson worked with [mp3com-artist]Erykah Badu[/mp3com-artist] and [mp3com-artist]the Dap Kings[/mp3com-artist] and [mp3com-artist]Trombone Shorty[/mp3com-artist] on a jazz song. Ray Manzarek worked with [mp3com-artist]The Doors[/mp3com-artist] members Robby Krieger and John Densmore and DJ/producer Skrillex.

According to Rolling Stonethere were “some real fish out of water moments” but Manzarek and Skrillex “had an immediate musical connection. ”

Manzarek said “[Skrillex] plays his beat, all he had to do was play the one thing. I listened to it and I said, ‘Holy shit, that’s strong. Basically, it’s a variation on ‘Milestones,’ by Miles Davis, and if I do say so myself, sounds fucking great, hot as hell.”

Manzarek also said “I like to say this is the first new Doors track of the 21st century.” Watch the video and let us know if you think his statement is true!

RE:GENERATION will premiere during GRAMMYs week 2012.
