The Stanley Cup took a tumble in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Boston Bruins’ (soon to be the Dallas Stars’) Michael Ryder set the cup down on a table and it tumbled to the ground. Was it the table, was it the wind, was it Ryder’s bad placement?  You be the judge!

This isn’t the first time the Stanley Cup has hit the ground. In 2008, Chris Chelios was standing on a bar when he handed the cup off to Brett Lebda. Lebda and the cup both went down.  An emergency dent removal took place in the Joe Louis Arena locker room.  Yes, there is someone who’s full-time job is caring for the Stanley Cup.  How do you get that gig?

I couldn’t find any video of the 2008 drop but I did find a clip of Chris Chelios dropping another award… there appears to be a pattern.
