Liovnia Spree is off and running and will continue through Sunday. Visitors will find a great midway, good food and drink, music and entertainment and even fireworks.
Every year at this time, folks in Livonia celebrate the founding of their fine city. It’s called Livonia Spree and it just keeps getting bigger and better each year. This year’s event runs through Sunday.
The heart of the action is Ford Field at the corner of Farmington Road and Lyndon. They have a 24 hour hotline at (734) 427-8190. Shuttle parking is probably your best bet so head to Livonia City Hall.
The first Spree took place in 1970. Back then Ed McNamara was calling the shots as mayor of Livonia.
Various events take place each day during the spree but today party goers can enjoy the Taste of Spree from 6pm-8pm for $10. On the main stage from 7pm-11pm it’s Boogie Dynomite providing the musical entertainment.
There are a few rules to keep in mind. No rollerblades or skates. No booze on Spree grounds. No coolers allowed. And leave your four legged friends at home. But of course, service dogs are more than welcome.
The Spree got off to a bit of a rough start on the first day when a midway ride malfunctioned. One person was slightly injured.
