Three decades ago Anton Fury bought a folder of unpublished photos of Marylin Monroe and 70 negatives of actress Jayne Mansfield at a garage sale. CNN reports Fury paid just $2 for the entire folder.

“I took it home, put them on the lightboard with a loupe and, needless to say, these are Marilyn,” he said. “That was probably my greatest garage sale discovery ever.”

The photos show a young Marilyn Monroe, in her early 20’s posing on the streets of 1950’s Hollywood and poolside in a one piece swim suit, a bikini and a pair of short pants.

The lucky man to find the photographs recently brought them to David W. Streets, an appraiser experienced with Monroe photographs. Streets is working to discover the origins of the photos but they currently remain a mystery.

The photos could possibly be brought to auction but there is a small chance they are protected by copyright law and someone could claim the rights.

“That’s kind of what we’re trying to figure out…  there’s way more questions than there are answers at this point. We don’t know where this is going to lead.”
