Okay yesterday’s rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow was not welcome. It’s time to think about summer and thanks to the Pool and Spa Show coming up starting tomorrow in Novi, I’m starting to get into the mood.
Have you ever thought about installing a poll in your yard? They’re great and if you think you might enjoy one at your place, head for the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi tomorrow through Sunday and check out the Pool and Spa Show!
Dozens of experts will be on hand to show you how you transform your backyard into a waterland of fun. Whether you’re looking for a giant in-ground pool with spa or an above ground pool, you’ll see it on display.
The hours on opening day tomorrow are 3-9pm. Saturday hours are 11am-9pm. And on closing day, Sunday, the doors open at 11am and close at 5pm.
The fee is $8 for adults. Kids between 6 and 14 get in for $4. But if you bring the kids, I’m betting you’ll wind up investing in a pool.
When we initially moved to Metro Detroit in the fall of 1984 our house just happened to “come” with a pool in Troy. The realtor kept apoligizing saying we could have it filled in if we didn’t like it. But we actually liked the idea of having a pool.
This pool was as nice as many hotel pools. It was a 35,000 gallon in-ground pool. The deep end was 10 feet deep and it had a diving board. It had an attached 8,000 gallon hot tub with jets. Both the pool and hot tub had lights. And it even had a 675,000 BTU gas heater. It was sensational.
We’d open the pool in mid-May and close it in early October. It was great sitting in the hot tub (105 degrees) on a cold October night with plumes of steam rising into the air.
I swam a mile a day during summer and while I didn’t loose any weight, it was great cardio exercise. I could fly up a staircase without even missing a breath. And it creates great family fun.
People used to ask me if it was hard keeping the chlorine and chemicals at the right level. The answer was “no.” Once you get the hang of it, it’s easy.
Have fun at the show in Novi and I hope you’ll at least consider investing in a pool for your family. We sure enjoyed our pool in Troy! I wish we still had it!
