I was doing a little reasearch to refresh my memory of all things hot in 1975 for todays Big 4 at 4 countdown, and ran across a 1975 TV commercial for a hot new product: The Sony Betamax Video Cassette Recorder!

It was the 1975 class reunion on WOMC’s Big 4 at 4 countdown. While I was researching songs, Tv shows, movies and other 1975 trivia, I found this Tv commercial for a hot new product: The Sony Betamax VCR (a.k.a. “Beta”). Sony introduced them May 10, 1975. I had a friend who had one: Unlike a DVD player or DVR , it was the size of a suitcase and made all kinds of weird noise. I can remember going to video stores and seeing tapes for movies in both VHS and Beta. Of course, “Beta” only lasted a few years and was replaced by the more affordable “VHS” tape format. I never owned a Beta, but had several VHS vcr’s over the years. I NEVER could program the darn things!
