If it’s been a while since you last heard the name Cat Stevens you may be wondering where he’s been. Well, he’s alive and well and he still has his golden voice and crazy-good talent.
According to TheGlobeandMail.com, Yusof stopped performing in English in 2000. He had some issues with the US government in 2004. Read the transcript of his 2004 Larry King interview to
hear his side of the story.
Finally, in 2005 Yusof began playing secular music again. He told the BBC, “It’s me, so it’s going to sound like that of course … This is the real thing…. When my son brought the guitar back into the house, you know, that was the turning point. It opened a flood of, of new ideas and music which I think a lot of people would connect with.”
By 2006 Yusof had regained the ability to travel in the United States. Since then he’s done a lot of collaborating, made television appearances and toured extensively.
Bonus: Yusaf’s son is also a musician.
