Yesterday’s first Press Preview Day at the North American International Auto Show at Cobo Center was impressive, to say the least.  And it all started off with the winners of the 2011 North American Car and the 2011 North American Truck.

Today marks the second Press Preview Day at the North American International Auto Show at Cobo Center in Detroit.  Yesterday there was non-stop action beginning with a very early breakfast for all the movers and shakers.  Next came the the big announcement on the 2011 North American Car and Truck of the year.  The car honors went to the red hot Chevrolet Volt.  The all new Ford Explorer was chosen as the 2011 North American Truck.

GM went on to show off the brand new 2012 Buick Verano.  It’s a small but luxurious sedan.

Lots of news from Ford at yesterday’s Press Preview.  Mark Fields, Ford’s President of the Americas, announced that the company plans to add 7,000 new jobs over the next two years.  This year fields says 4,000 blue collar workers will be hired along with 750 salaries positions.  Then next year another 2,500 plant jobs will be added.

Ford also showed up with three new hybrid and electric models at Cobo including the 7 passenger minivan called the Ford C-Max.  And the company also came forth with it’s new Escape which has gotten a lot sleeker and more sporty.

Chrysler drove it’s newly redesigned Chrysler 300 out onto the showroom floor.  Ditto for the new Chrysler 200 (based on the old Sebring) and the new Town and Country minivan.

Many of the foreign automakers popped with their own thunder including Audi and and the ultra luxurious Bentley folks.

Even Michelin, the big tire company, got in on the act yesterday unveiling their first ever winter tire mileage warranty.  The mileage warranty covers the X-Ice X12 and Latitude X-Ice X12 tires for a 40,000 mile tread life.

Today should be another fun day at the show, which opens to the public next Saturday, January 15th.  The previous day the movie “Green Hornet” opens and the Green Hornet car used in the movie will be on display at the auto show starting on the 15th.  By the way what car is used in the movie?  I’ve seen enough pictures of it that my guess is that it’s a 1965 Chrysler Imperial.  But don’t hold me to that!

With all the excitement generated by the auto show and now that the economy is starting to improve, we’d like to hear your plans for this year when it comes to perhaps investing in a new vehicle.  Please take our poll below.
