Detroit’s own Queen of Soul underwent surgery for an undisclosed illness yesterday and from every indication the operation went well.
A spokesperson for Aretha Franklin says her surgery went very well yesterday. The quote was that the operation was “highly successful.” Doctors began the procedure at 5am.
At the family’s request, the exact nature of the Queen of Soul’s illness has not been revealed. But it is serious enough that a vigil was held Wednesday night in downtown Detroit in front of the Spirit of Detroit outside the Coleman A. Young Municipal Building.
There are indications that the family may issue a statement on Franklin’s illness later today.
Last month an announcement was made that she was cancelling all shows for at least six months acting on doctors’ orders.
Everybody here at WOMC wishes the Queen of Soul a speedy and complete recovery!
