[lastfm]Rick Springfield [/lastfm] has a lot to say in his new autobiography Late, Late Tonight out today, October 12th.
Reuters reports Springfield’s book reveals the Australian musician killed a Viet Cong soldier in 1968 by helping American troops load mortars during an attack . He was a 17-year-old musician in the region to entertain the troops.
“That was a war situation but it is still something that to this day sends a shiver down my spine” Springfield said.
Springfield also writes about his lifelong battle with depression and his failed suicide attempt at the age of 16. That’s when Springfield tried to hang himself but failed when the knot came loose.
Shortly after this low period Springfield ‘s music career was launched and he became a heart-throb dating Exorcist actress Linda Blair. He wrote “Jessie’s Girl” and it’s been played on the radio ever since but Springfield’s depression was never really “cured” and it hit him hard once again in 1989. He took a 10-year break from recording music before returning in 1999. He has since made six albums.
Springfield’s memoir covers all of this and more and he even comments on face lifts and infidelity.
