We’re launching our highly-anticipated new morning show on Monday, May 24, 2010! Twenty year morning radio broadcast veteran, Bobby Mitchell, and Detroit’s own Chuck Gaidica, will team up to form the nucleus of the new WOMC morning show, The Bobby Mitchell Show with Chuck Gaidica to air live weekdays from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m., stream online at www.womc.com and air through mobile devices. The Bobby Mitchell Show with Chuck Gaidica will also include veteran newsman Bob Schuman and producer Rachel Nevada.
Mitchell returns to Detroit from Dallas where he has been hosting The Saturday 80’s Show for the ABC Radio Network. No stranger to morning radio, Mitchell hosted the KPLX Morning Show in Dallas, where he was a favorite with adults 25-54. His on-air efforts earned the station Marconi Station of the Year honors as well as Radio & Records Station of the Year awards. He held similar posts at Y100 in Miami, KKHT in Houston and was on WHYT in Detroit during the 1980s. He is involved with numerous local and national charities, including St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Make-A-Wish Foundation and MDA.
“I’m elated to be joining the CBS RADIO Team at the legendary WOMC, and I’m excited about the great ensemble of talent we’ve assembled for the show,” said Mitchell. “It’s great to be reunited with Bob Schuman and to have the opportunity to work with Chuck Gaidica and Rachel Nevada. I arm wrestled Chuck for his weather job at WDIV TV, too, but I got distracted by his hair and lost.”
Gaidica, a longtime, highly popular presence on Detroit radio and television, has over 28 years of radio broadcasting experience and has been the Director of Meteorology at WDIV TV in Detroit since 1987. He is a two-time Emmy-award winner, has been voted Detroit’s top weathercaster year after year in The Metro Times—Best of Detroit edition and is well-known for his popular Cuddle Alerts.
“Joining WOMC is a great thrill for me,” said Gaidica. “The new morning show and the music are a perfect fit for who I am. Every song relates back to a memorable stage of my life and, as a car guy, I can’t wait for some dream cruisin’ to my favorite tunes. Another plus? I won’t need to wear make-up or pants that match my shirt.”
Schuman, who was previously with CBS RADIO’S 99.5 WYCD in Detroit, returns from his most recent stint at WOKV in Jacksonville, Florida. He will handle news duties while Nevada will report on traffic and entertainment as well as produce the program. Nevada, a Detroit native, is well-known to Detroit radio listeners as previous co-host and producer of The Mitch Albom Show on WJR-AM. She has received an RTNDA Edward R. Murrow Award and a Michigan Association of Broadcasters Award.
“We are thrilled to have assembled one of the most talented groups of radio hosts in Detroit to entertain and inform WOMC fans,” said Debbie Kenyon, Vice President and Market Manager CBS RADIO Detroit. She added, “Bobby Mitchell is a seasoned pro who loves Detroit and teaming him with Chuck Gaidica – Detroit TV’s #1 personality – is a win-win venture for WOMC.” Tim Roberts, WOMC Operations Manager/Program Director, stated “WOMC is a great heritage radio station and listeners can expect a fun, friendly, entertain-ing and topical local show every morning. We are excited to welcome these four talented broadcasters to our WOMC family.”
