[lastfm]The Troggs[/lastfm] were a highly influential band of the 1960’s whose sound inspired the garage rock and punk rock scene.  The Troggs were originally named The Troglodytes, as in cavemen. On April 22, 1966 The Troggs released their classic song “Wild Thing.”  The story goes that the band waited outside a studio in a van and were told they could come in and record only if there was available time after a session with the Larry Page Orchestra. By the time they were signaled to come in there was only 15 minutes left.  The tracks ‘Wild Thing’ and ‘With A Girl Like You’ were both recorded in two takes, in ten minutes!

[lastfm]The Jimmy Hendrix Experience [/lastfm] famously covered “Wild Thing” during the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival and set his guitar ablaze.
