Lightfoot to Update “Edmund Fitzgerald” Lyrics

[lastfm]Gordon Lightfoot[/lastfm] plans on updating  one of his most famous songs “[lastfm]The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald”[/lastfm]

The Edmund Fitzgerald/

Everyone who’s grown up in the The Great Lake State knows the story of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald. It went down in Lake Superior in November 1975. The “Legend Lives On” thanks to [lastfm]Gordon Lightfoot’s [/lastfm]song “Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald”. The Ottawa Sun is reporting he is changing the lyric “At 7p.m. the main hatchway gave in” when he sings the song at his concerts. That lyric sort of implied the crew might have been at fault for the ships sinking, when it was most likely not the fault of the 29 men who lost their lives. Should he change the classic song we all grew up with, or not?
