Wishing you a long and healthy “retirement” Dick! I retired a few months ago and listened to you every morning for the past 38 years. So, I am very happy that you waited until now to sign off the radio because I know that I could not have managed that drive into the office every morning without you!!!! Best Wishes to you & Gail!

You are the best of the best on radio. I will miss you, but I dont’t want to be selfish; so with that God bless you and your family, health, happiness, and happy retirement. You are special.

  17. Chris says:

I moved to Detroit 19 years ago. I always listened to you. At first, I didn’t get that some of your bits were “put-ons,” but I thought it was hilarious anyway. Ankles dad over in Canada, for instance. As long as I’ve been driving to work–you and your “people” have been there, making me laugh so that my day started out right. You’ll be missed, mostly because your type of entertainment, unfortunately, is disappearing. By that I mean..funny….but SMART, too! Thanks for the laughs.

  18. laraine says:

Thanks for the memories. You will be missed

  19. sheila says:

Thanks so much for starting our days with a smile. The #1 preset on our radio was always set to whatever station you were on at the time. It will go unused now because no one will ever be able to fill your shoes. May God Bless you and your family and may you enjoy many years of retirement. You and the gang will be sorely missed.

  22. Karen Schroeder says:

Really miss all of you already. Don’t know who I am going to listen to now. Nobody can start off the morning the way Dick Purtan and Purtan’s People could. Best wishes to all and best of luck to Dick & Gail in retirement!

  23. Carla Menard-Beltramini says:

thanks to WOMC posting this! As you know, thanks to the “big suits,” those of us who live outside of the USA can no longer listen live. I will really miss you, I’ve lost my funniest connection to Michigan. I am looking forward to the book and hoping you might reconsider going part time…..perhaps some holiday specials?

  24. Bradley Sullivan says:

You leaving is like losing a family member. We do love ya Dick! Thank you for everything that you have done for us. God bless you.

  25. Carolyn Twilley says:

Dick, I just never imagined that you would retire. I thought that everytime I returned to visit my old hometown each summer that you would be there for me as I set my alarm to hear every moment of your. You are such a unique individual, along with your crew. I was so proud of you when you were inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame. I can’t express my dismay at your retirement from radio.

  26. Carolyn Twilley says:

I have listened to you for 45 years…except the last 6 since we moved to CA. My radio set on your station and only your station with tape holding the dial. I visited you at the station and several locations. I kept up with the crew via your website and now grieve your leaving. You certainly deserve your retirement with Gail at your side. Enjoy!!

  27. sue says:

Thanks for the memories, Dick. I remember the handlebar mustache and listened to you on WXYZ. You were my fav DJ until I graduated from Grosse Pointe South HS in 1970. You are the epitome of what a genuine human being is. Continue to support your causes.

  28. tracy Johnston says:

Dick, you were such a part of my life, thank you
